Family Tree

This painting first appeared to me in 2003. It depicts a creepy but alluring young woman whose portrait is superimposed over what is her family’s dilapidated estate. Featured is a silhouette of the family mansion with bare—presumably winter, or perhaps even dead—trees, from which black birds ascend. The trees are disconnected from the ground, missing their trunks from a few feet above the ground. This latter image has also been a recurring theme in my dreams.
